2015 Leadership Institute-Education Track

This series of courses was designed to provide real-world education for respiratory therapists who wish to expand their breadth and depth of knowledge beyond the clinical realm. The Leadership Institute was designed and developed by content experts in respiratory care education, management, and research. The information and activities in the Leadership Institute provide a foundation for future growth in your career.

The content of this track is based on critical competencies of respiratory care managers and developed by content experts. The Education Track will provide the learner with a strong foundation for education in respiratory care.

Each of the six (6) modules contain a short video, text-based course content, and a 3-question post-module quiz. The comprehensive post-course test contains 20 questions. A score of 80% (16/20) is required to pass.

  • Identify the effective communication skills required to maintain collaborative and supportive relationships in the clinical environment
  • Describe the steps in clinical evaluation
  • Describe inter-rater reliability as it relates to clinical evaluations and how it is achieved
  • Describe the steps in developing a lecture
  • Explain the role of case study exercises and role-playing in effective instruction
  • Develop competencies, instructional goals and objectives for laboratory instruction
  • Describe problem based learning and its application
  • Explain methods for evaluating instruction
  • Identify classroom and laboratory resources.
  • Discuss the use of computer technology in the classroom
  • Describe internet-based classroom management systems (e.g., Blackboard©)
  • Discuss the use of patient simulators
  • Discuss web-based instruction/distance learning
  • Review recent trends in health informatics
  • Describe how to assess workforce needs for continuing education
  • Identify the steps in development of a department education plan
